the a1 was never a big surprise. mattias fridell s consumed for profit was one of the tracks of the year, and surely fridell s personal best track, and was played by anyone who at least plays a bit of techno in their sets. the usual fridell quality of standard and a tight synth line! a2 sees french artist electric rescue s quarries in the a. mochi remix. a peak-time banger, slapping the synth stabs right into your face. this one always gets the floor jumping. the b-side kicks off with label-head advance human s pure , stripping things down to some essential moody but slamming techno, right up there amongst his best productions. b2 has +platform s mosses closing things off, and as we came to know and love from +platform, it s out there, dubby and dreamy techno, born for those deeper berghainesque floors.

caul is the new album from last harbour. based in the northern english city of manchester, last harbour play music with a dark, gothic heart yet their songs are always beautiful and transcendent. after working with producer richard formby (wild beasts, spacemen 3, ghostpoet) on two previous albums, the band took time out after touring to build their own studio in 2013. this new album was recorded in that self-created space over a year between 2013-4 and bears testament to a patient and detailed recording process that allowed time for experimentation and careful arrangement.

legotek s first lp is brought to you by tel aviv based dot. imagine one of those special sets. the kind of musical story that sticks in your mind for ages, you always remember and in times can scoop endless seeming power from. well this 8-tracker from dot just about fulfils this kind of stimulus. each track can be seen either as one special individual or the whole package as one big flowing journey. mixed together this could easily turn out as a live set. now then, about the unique music and its seductive vibe. staying true to the underground heart of legotek dot has managed what many aim for in effort. a vibrant, lively and deep sound constantly accompanied by strong kicks and pumping melodies. the analogue core of the story has been given the breath of life to become a classic piece of deep house history.
the km editions series, admirably helmed by the mysterious keyboard masher, has always been one of the more interesting re-edit/rework labels. past installments have touched on krautrock, disco, balearica, funk, italo and what can only be described as electronic oddities. this sixth volume offers up three more impressively remixed, overdubbed and reedited gems. theres naturally much to admire, not least the omd style woozy synth-pop of stolen shapes (stealing rework), which should tickle the fancy of anyone of a balearic disposition. the same can be said about the immersive, sun-kissed pianos and shuffling grooves of -astral playground. there s also a chunk of silly but, perversely, rather good french cod-reggae in the shape of le cod-, arguably our pick of a strong bunch.
